Youth Assembly @ UN

Congratulations to those representing Cares Global Network at the 12th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations taking place at the UN Headquartres in New York City USA. We have no doubt that their participation would be worthwhile and they would return to share the experience gained with us.

The following have received invitation letters and would be representing us, subject to visa issuance:

1. Olasunkanmi Akindele (22), student of OAU with MDG interest in Youth Empowerment

2. Lanre Jolaoso (26), staff of Terragon Limited with MDG interest in Universal Primary Education

3. Jesutomisin Akinlesi (17), student of Medicine at Babcock University

4. Funmi Ajumobi (46), staff of Vanguard Newspaper with MDG interest in Poverty Eradication

While the first three are going as participants, Ms. Ajumobi would be attending as media observer. Our logistic officer would ensure they have a smooth transition to the US while the project director would receive and welcome them in the US and ensure they maximise their participation.

We appreciate them for all the work they have been doing to achieve diverse MDG goals and trust that they would return to Nigeria to share their experience and carry forward their advocacy for the attainment of MDG goals especially those related to children and youths.

Since 2004, the annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations has been recognised as a respected leadership event focusing on youth led development related to the success of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Its vision is to create substantive opportunities for increased youth involvement at and surrounding U.N. activities, commitment to the MDGs, personal career development in civil society, and by extension the promotion of democratic values, international partnership, and a renewal of commitment to the United Nations as a vehicle for peace, diplomacy and human security. This initiative of FAF and its partner, the II for a CP, has grown into the premier youth event at the U.N. HQ in New York. Each year it brings together hundreds of young people from around the world who seek practical ways to contribute to the achievement of the MDGs, global networking and social entrepreneurship skills, as well as meeting with and contributing to civil society formally affiliated with the United Nations.

Below are clips from the pre-assembly meeting which took place in January-Februsry 2013.
